Remembering The Journey

The beautiful and sacred journey I have taken has led me to a deep knowing of our magnificent power as spiritual beings having a human experience. The unfolding of this true power began when I reached inside to discover my own magnificence and nurtured it with delicious doses of love.

The opportunity that presented itself and allowed me to make this discovery was disguised as an extreme challenge. While making my way home from work one day in 1989, I was struck with the most severe headache. The next morning I woke up and was blind in my left eye. The doctors at Mayo Clinic imparted on me the shocking news of a Multiple Sclerosis diagnosis. Even though the doctors were telling me really devastating things could happen to me, I told myself it doesn’t mean they will. I am an individual, and statistics are for groups. I have maintained all along I would be the one who defies all the odds.

Over the years I experienced devastating effects, but somehow was able to pick myself up again and focus on what I could do instead of on all of the loss. As the dis-ease in my body worsened, it required me to step away from the career path I deeply loved and place my focus squarely on myself. Looking back and connecting the dots I now realize this was what my inner being was crying out for all along. So I began my journey of a lifetime! I finally noticed the importance of needing to listen to My Body and experience the True Me. I began practicing the Art of Self-Care through the beautiful Art of Self-Love. I strongly believed in all the integrative and holistic practices I began to implement. It would be this belief, I would discover later, that held the key to unlocking the power within me, a power we all have.

Then in January of 2011, I received the most shocking news ever. I had been misdiagnosed with MS for 22 years and actually had something considered more severe, Neuromyelitis Optica. A specialist at Mayo took one look at me and said, “Wow, you don’t even look like someone who has had MS for 22 years, let alone this disease considered to be more serious. Don’t stop doing what you are doing on your own because obviously it’s working.” Next he instructed me to immediately stop the prescribed MS injections I gave myself for 16 years, because they were actually harmful to someone with my condition. I told him my very powerful mind believed they were helping me, so I knew they did not hurt me.

Ultimately, I was unable to stay on the new medication due to life threatening side effects and chose to immerse myself further into tapping into the power we all have within us, and I developed my 7-step system for radical healing. I took a deep dive into practicing Self-Care and the Art of Self-Love. I made drastic changes in my life to guard my peace and listened intently to my body, mind and spirit for what my total being was calling for, which was love and healthy, regular doses of self-care. It’s all about living with an abundance of health, wealth & love!

I believe Self-Care is the new Healthcare. The deep realization of empowerment that has come along with this has been profound. I now share my findings with others so that all can thrive and live a life of excellence, no matter the circumstances! In 2012 I founded Excellence Institute, where I bring highly effective and transformative tools, practices and methods through the inspirational vehicle of coaching and mentoring to empower women who want to live their best life!
